Mecca Joint Defense Agreement moves to ratification as Türkiye sends pact to parliament

The Foreign Office of Pakistan said the country has finished ratifying the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement made with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia had also completed the process, while Türkiye was following its own domestic approval procedures, spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said.
Ankara submitted the agreement to parliament for approval.
The three parties continue to discuss the agreement, its ratification and its operationalization, he said.
Those talks have included meetings of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee.
The agreement was signed at Mecca by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
The pact treats an external armed attack on any signatory as an attack on all three, and provides for defense industry cooperation including technology sharing and joint production.
Pakistan has described the pact as defensive and consistent with the U.N. Charter.

Agreement: Mecca Joint Defense Agreement Parties: Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan Joint body: Strategic Political and Defense Committee Core clause: attack on any signatory treated as attack on all three
Why it matters for exams: The durable facts are the name Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, its three parties Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, the city where it was signed, and its collective defence clause treating an attack on one signatory as an attack on all three.
