Khandu says Siang survey is only a Pre-Feasibility Report; SIA, EIA and DPR must follow before any decision

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the ongoing Preliminary Feasibility Report exercise on the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project should not be read as the start of dam construction. The PFR involves only preliminary technical studies, including the collection of rock samples, and no land acquisition or loss of agricultural or forest land. If the project is found feasible, the next stages are a Social Impact Assessment, an Environment Impact Assessment and a Detailed Project Report, with public consultations mandatory. He said peaceful protest was a legitimate democratic right, but violence and destruction of property were criminal acts.

Current stage: Pre-Feasibility Report Later stages: SIA, EIA, DPR
Why it matters for exams: The staged clearance path for a large dam (PFR, SIA, EIA, DPR) is a common polity and environment question.
