A single Lok Sabha seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and the years when its MP was appointed
Background
The Lakshadweep Lok Sabha constituency is the only parliamentary constituency representing the entire Union Territory, and the seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The Administration's own account records that, as of 2014, it was the smallest Lok Sabha constituency in India by number of voters. Before its first election, held in 1967, the constituency's Member of Parliament was directly appointed by the President of India: the first MP was K. Nalla Koya Thangal, who served two terms from 1957 to 1967. The first election in 1967 was won by the independent candidate P. M. Sayeed. The Member of Parliament representing Lakshadweep is also a member of the District Panchayat constituted for the whole of the islands.
