African Union calls for the unconditional lifting of unilateral sanctions on Zimbabwe
23 October 2026
The African Union has called for the unconditional lifting of unilateral sanctions imposed against Zimbabwe. Unilateral sanctions are restrictions imposed by one country or group of countries on its own decision, as against sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council, which bind all United Nations member states. Zimbabwe, whose capital is Harare, is a member of the African Union and of the Southern African Development Community.
