Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia aims to table and pass a State-Owned Enterprises Bill within the year

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat on 20 October 2026 that the government is finalising a State-Owned Enterprises Bill and aims to table and pass it within the year.
He said the Bill would tighten regulation, governance and financial management of government bodies and agencies, including Bumiputera-related entities.
Anwar said the Bill is meant to prevent irregularities in such bodies that could cause losses amounting to billions of ringgit.
He was replying to a supplementary question from Zaliha Mustafa, the member for Sekijang, during Ministers' Question Time.
Anwar said he first announced the Bill when tabling Budget 2027 on 9 October 2026.
He told the House: "Insya-Allah, we will table the State-Owned Enterprises Bill to strengthen oversight and ensure more robust regulations."

Bill: State-Owned Enterprises Bill Where announced: Budget 2027, tabled 9 October 2026 Target: Tabling and passage within 2026
Why it matters for exams: Questions on state-owned enterprise reform and legislative oversight of public funds draw on exactly this kind of announcement in a comparable federal parliamentary system.
