Assam notifies 12% horizontal reservation for ex-Agniveers in police and other uniformed posts

Eligible former Agniveers will now get a 12% horizontal quota in specified Assam government posts.
A Home Department notification gives effect to the Cabinet's approval of October 4.
The quota applies to direct recruitment in Assam Police, Home Guards, Prisons, the Excise and Forest Departments, the State Disaster Response Force and Fire and Emergency Services.
To qualify, a candidate must be a permanent resident of Assam who joined the forces under the Agnipath scheme and finished the full four-year term in the Army, Navy or Air Force.
An official Agniveer certificate issued at discharge is also required.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said yearly recruitment drives for them will begin in 2027.

Reservation: 12% horizontal Cabinet approval: October 4 Recruitment drives begin: 2027
Why it matters for exams: States' quotas for ex-Agniveers and the basics of the Agnipath scheme (four-year term, horizontal reservation) are recurring Defence and Polity questions.
