Border Roads Organisation's 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road through Zanskar and Shinkun La to be dedicated to the nation on 15 October

The 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha road, built by the Border Roads Organisation, was to be dedicated to the nation on 15 October 2026, the Prime Minister's Office announced on 14 October 2026.
It links Nimmu in Leh with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through the Zanskar Valley and crosses the high-altitude Shinkun La Pass.
It gives Ladakh an alternative route alongside the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways.
The road supports military logistics for the Armed Forces.
It also improves access to healthcare, education and markets for residents of Zanskar.
Zanskar is one of the new districts carved out in Ladakh, which the Ministry of Home Affairs approved in principle in August 2024 along with Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang, taking the union territory from two districts to seven.

Length: 298 km Built by: Border Roads Organisation Pass crossed: Shinkun La End points: Nimmu in Leh to Darcha in Himachal Pradesh
Why it matters for exams: The road's length, the pass it crosses and the two states it joins are exactly the details a map-based question uses.
