Election Commission defers Tripura's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls

The Election Commission of India has revised the schedule of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura.
Political parties, including the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, had demanded the change in view of the 28 September Village Committee elections in the state's tribal areas.
The exercise, earlier scheduled to commence from 5 September 2026, has been deferred, with 1 January 2027 as the qualifying date in the state.
Under the new schedule, the month-long house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers will begin on 6 November 2026 and continue till 5 December 2026.
The draft electoral rolls will be published on 12 December 2026.
After claims and objections are filed and disposed of, the final electoral rolls will be published on 15 February 2027.

Qualifying date: 1 January 2027 House-to-house visits: 6 November to 5 December 2026 Draft rolls: 12 December 2026 Final rolls: 15 February 2027
Why it matters for exams: Electoral roll revision steps, qualifying dates and the officials who carry them out are a recurring polity and governance theme.
