Environment Minister inaugurates WWF Global Conservation Conference in Jaipur

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated the Global Conservation Conference of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) at Jaipur on 21 September 2026.
Representatives from more than 100 countries attended.
He said protected areas rose from around 750 to more than 1000 in the last decade, tiger reserves from 47 to 58 and elephant reserves from 30 to 33.
Ramsar sites rose from 24 to 101 in the same period.
He cited conservation breeding of the Great Indian Bustard in Rajasthan and community protection of sacred groves called Oran.

Tiger reserves: 47 to 58 Elephant reserves: 30 to 33 Ramsar sites: 24 to 101
Why it matters for exams: Counts of tiger reserves, elephant reserves and Ramsar sites, and species such as the Great Indian Bustard, are frequent environment questions.
