Four-lane NH-744 and Madurai Ring Road sections opened in a ₹3,700 crore highways package

National Highway works worth about ₹3,700 crore in Tamil Nadu were inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai on 11 October 2026. They include the 36 km, four-lane Vadugapatti–Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744 and the 30 km, four-lane Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A. The foundation stone was laid for a four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83. The works were part of projects worth over ₹13,000 crore launched at IIT Madras.
