G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meet in Bangkok as oil stays above 100 dollars

Most G20 finance ministers and central bank governors met in Bangkok on 15 October 2026, alongside the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank held in the city from 12 to 18 October.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga attended.
United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is also the G20 chair, did not attend; the United States was represented by Deputy Secretary Francis Brooke and Undersecretary for International Affairs Erin Browne.
The G20 brings together 19 large economies plus the European Union and the African Union, was established in 1999, and its members account for about 85 per cent of global GDP and three-quarters of global trade.
Crude oil has stayed above 100 dollars a barrel for much of the past eight months, and government debt exceeds 100 per cent of GDP in the United States, Canada, Japan, Italy and France.
China's cumulative trade surplus was 938 billion dollars in September 2026.
The previous G20 finance meeting, at Asheville in North Carolina from 31 August to 1 September 2026, ended without a joint communique. The leaders' summit is set for Miami on 14 and 15 December 2026.
