German inflation climbs to 3.3 per cent as energy prices jump 14.9 per cent
10 October 2026
Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) put the country's inflation rate at +3.3% year on year in September 2026, on provisional figures. Consumer prices rose +0.6% on the previous month. Energy prices were +14.9% higher than a year earlier, while food prices rose only +0.4%. Core inflation, measured without food and energy, stood at +2.4%. The same headline rate applies to the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), the measure the European Central Bank watches for euro area countries. Germany is the euro area's largest economy, so its price data feed directly into ECB rate thinking.
