Greece and Türkiye joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization together

Greece is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO's own list of member countries records that on 18 February 1952 Greece and Türkiye joined the Alliance. They were the first countries admitted after the twelve founding members of 1949. NATO now has 32 member countries, the most recent being Finland in 2023 and Sweden in 2024. Greece therefore belongs to NATO, the European Union, the euro area, the Schengen area, the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
