Gujarat High Court holds a degree held by a university is personal information under the RTI Act

In Arvind Kejriwal v. Gujarat University, reported as 2026 LiveLaw (Guj) 263, the Gujarat High Court held that an educational degree held by a university is personal information for which no overriding public interest had been shown. The court also held that the Central Information Commission had no authority to direct suo motu disclosure under the Right to Information Act. A cost of ₹25,000 was upheld. The ruling appears in the High Court's September 2026 reported decisions.
