INS Sudarshini ends the 287-day Lokayan global voyage at Kochi

The Indian Navy sail training vessel INS Sudarshini returned to the Kochi naval base after its first global voyage, named Lokayan 26.
The ship was away from India for 287 days, of which 214 days were spent at sea, and it covered more than 22,000 nautical miles, that is 40,744 km, under sail.
The route took it across four continents, Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. The hardest leg was a 19-day crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in rough weather.
The expedition was part of the Navy's MAHASAGAR outreach, Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions, meant to build ties with friendly navies and work on maritime security, and it carried the message Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world is one family.
Ravikant Nanduri was the ship's commanding officer. Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, led the reception, and the ship was given a water salute on arrival.
INS Sudarshini was commissioned in 2012 and the voyage was flagged off from Kochi on 20 January 2026.

Days away from India: 287, of which 214 at sea Distance covered: more than 22,000 nautical miles (40,744 km) Continents: Four: Asia, Europe, Africa, North America
Why it matters for exams: The durable facts are INS Sudarshini, a sail training vessel commissioned in 2012, its Lokayan 26 global voyage, and the Indian Navy's MAHASAGAR outreach, Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
