INSEE's first estimate shows French GDP slipping 0.1% in the third quarter
30 October 2026
France's national statistics office, INSEE, released its first estimate of third-quarter 2026 output on 30 October. Gross domestic product in volume fell by 0.1%, after a flat second quarter (0.0%). Spending at home still grew: household consumption rose 0.4% and public administration consumption 0.3%. Investment, measured as gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), dropped again, by 0.6%. The main drag was foreign trade: exports fell 1.7% while imports were almost unchanged, so trade took 0.6 points off growth. Changes in inventories added 0.4 points. This is only a first estimate, and INSEE can revise it in later releases.
