Kerala High Court issues time-bound road safety directions covering private bus operations and black spots

A Kerala High Court bench of Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and K.V. Jayakumar issued time-bound directions on road safety.
The directions cover road design and maintenance, electronic enforcement, private bus operations and black spots.
Local bodies must prepare, within 60 days, inventories of the roads under their control.
For private buses the court ordered minimum gaps between buses, GPS-based monitoring and ANPR (automatic number plate recognition).
The Safe Kerala AI-enabled camera project is to be extended to identified black spots and accident-prone stretches on State Highways.
The first consolidated compliance report is due within 75 days, with the Chief Secretary collating the reports.
The court was told that Kerala recorded 49,889 road accidents, 3,733 deaths and 56,922 injuries in 2025.

Local body road inventory deadline: 60 days / 60 ദിവസം First compliance report due: 75 days / 75 ദിവസം Road deaths in 2025: 3,733
Why it matters for exams: Court-ordered deadlines and named enforcement tools (ANPR, GPS, Safe Kerala cameras) are typical Kerala PSC current-affairs facts.
