Kerala issues special instructions to the Tourism Department and DTPCs as rain alerts continue
18 October 2026
Acting on the rain warning of the meteorological department, the Kerala government issued special instructions to the Tourism Department and the District Tourism Promotion Councils.
Restrictions are to be placed on waterfalls and other water-linked tourist centres in districts under an orange alert and in neighbouring districts where the rain is spreading, and are to continue until the warnings are withdrawn.
Restrictions are also to be placed in hill areas prone to landslides and debris flows until the rain ends, with safety boards and travel curbs on the roads leading to such places.
The instructions require that the warning reaches tourists who have come from other States and countries, and that emergency contact numbers be circulated widely among them.
Special control rooms working round the clock are to be opened until the warning ends, and the restrictions are to be publicised through the media and social media.
Notices about the restrictions are also to be sent to the control rooms of the police, disaster management and the fire and rescue services.
The release is numbered P.N.X. 4368/2026 and was issued on 17 October 2026.
