Kerala puts PM SHRI implementation on hold pending political consensus; Cabinet subcommittee headed by Education Minister N Shamsudeen

The Kerala government has put implementation of the PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) scheme on hold, Onmanorama reported on 4 October 2026. A four-member Cabinet subcommittee headed by Education Minister N Shamsudeen is examining the scheme. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the previous LDF government. Education Minister Shamsudeen has said the state cannot withdraw from it, and the government aims to implement it with conditions safeguarding the state's interests. The Muslim League leadership, meeting at Vazhayur on 3 October, advised against a hasty decision.
