Kerala reconstitutes the State Waqf Board with nine members and M.C. Mayin Haji as chairman
17 October 2026
The Kerala government has reconstituted the Kerala State Waqf Board through a government order, naming M.C. Mayin Haji as chairman of a nine-member board.
Mayin Haji, who has served 18 consecutive years as an elected member in the mutawalli category, is a state vice-president of the Indian Union Muslim League and a member of the Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board.
MLA Kurukkoli Moideen has been nominated as the representative of MLAs; the other members are Mustafal Faisy, Thodiyoor Mohammed Kunju Maulavi of Dakshina Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, Abdul Majeed Swalahi of Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen, Jaseem Sabah, Siraz D Kapasi, Sajna Firoz and Madeena Beegum.
The order refers to cases pending before the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court and to a High Court direction on the board's composition; the previous board was dissolved over eligibility of some members, and its chairman K.S. Hamsa, appointed in March, has challenged the move in the High Court.
No non-Muslim members have been included yet, and their nomination is expected to follow the Supreme Court's ruling in the matter.
