KSEB's Soura scheme and Kerala's solar capacity beyond 900 MW
Background
Kerala's installed power generation capacity is about 3,300 MW, with hydroelectric projects the main source, run mainly by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
Because hydro output depends on rain, part of the State's demand is met by buying power from the national grid.
Transmission and distribution losses have been brought down to about 10-11 per cent, one of the lowest rates in the country.
Solar capacity has crossed 900 MW, helped by KSEB's Soura scheme, rooftop systems and solar parks.
The Government of Kerala State Profile page gives these figures.
