Local bodies to turn rest centres on Sabarimala routes into information centres with QR codes
10 October 2026
Local self-government institutions and district administrations in Kerala are preparing facilities for the Sabarimala Mandala-Makaravilakku pilgrim season, LSGD Minister K M Shaji said in a Facebook post on 10 October 2026. Rest centres along the pilgrimage routes are to become information centres giving distances, transport facilities, emergency helpline numbers, nearby hospitals and eateries. QR code facilities are being considered at all rest centres so that pilgrims can submit complaints and suggestions and reach emergency services, along with charging points. The department will talk to service providers about free internet at rest centres and along the routes. Local bodies have been told to ensure drinking water, street lighting and waste management, and public toilets and 'Take a Break' centres are to be fully operational. The pilgrimage season begins on 16 November.
