Malaysia's Registrar of Societies cancels Perikatan Nasional's registration under the Societies Act 1966

The Registrar of Societies (RoS) of Malaysia said on 20 October 2026 that it has cancelled the registration of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
The cancellation was made under subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act 1966.
RoS had issued PN a notice dated 22 September 2026 under subsection 13(2) of the same Act, asking the coalition to explain and make representations.
PN submitted its reply on 12 October 2026, and RoS said the reply did not refute the grounds for deregistration.
RoS said it had received an official complaint from Bersatu on 11 August 2026 relating to a PN Supreme Council meeting held on 16 July 2026.

Provision used: Subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv), Societies Act 1966 Notice to the coalition: 22 September 2026, under subsection 13(2) Coalition's reply: 12 October 2026
Why it matters for exams: Examiners use this to test knowledge of how a foreign state regulates political coalitions through its law of associations, a common comparative-polity question.
