Presidential Working Group says Nigeria's National Policing Bill is 90 per cent ready for the National Assembly
15 October 2026
Nigeria's National Policing Bill is 90 per cent ready for transmission to the National Assembly, the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group, Femi Gbajabiamila, said after the group's steering committee met at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, 15 October 2026. He described the bill as the most consequential Bill of the administration so far, said one more meeting would finalise the remaining details, and put the timeline at about a week after the governors' one or two observations are settled; the working group said it would transmit the bill within two weeks. The steering committee began its deliberations on 3 August. Gbajabiamila noted that only about six states out of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory had passed the Sixth Constitution Alteration Bill on state police. Those at the meeting included the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Governors of Ogun and Kaduna states, Dapo Abiodun and Uba Sani, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Beatrice Jedy-Agba.
