Mizoram's case for extending the railway towards its international border is built on how freight has changed since the line opened. The Bairabi-Sairang railway line has brought a transformative change in freight transportation in Mizoram. It enables goods including essential commodities, automobiles and construction materials to reach Aizawl in a safe, time bound and cost effective manner. Before the line, the state's difficult terrain made long-distance movement heavily dependent on roads, making travel time consuming and unreliable. Sairang station became Mizoram's new passenger and logistics gateway to the national railway network.
