Scheduled Tribes in Odisha: 22.85 per cent of population, third-largest ST population

Background

The ST & SC Development Department of the Government of Odisha states that Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes together make up nearly 40% of the state's total population, with Scheduled Tribes at 22.85%. Odisha ranks third numerically in Scheduled Tribe population among Indian states. Seven districts are covered fully and six districts partly under the Scheduled Areas of the state.
