Security Council meets on Colombia as the UK says thirteen peace signatories have been killed this year and plans a draft resolution renewing the UN Verification Mission

The UN Security Council met on Colombia on 12 October 2026, where the UK Permanent Representative, Dame Sarah MacIntosh, delivered a statement.
She said thirteen peace signatories have been killed so far in 2026.
She said more than 11,000 former combatants remain demobilized, enrolled in reintegration programs and committed to the Peace Agreement.
As the Agreement approaches its 10th anniversary, she said the next five years, the final five years, will be critical.
She called the UN Verification Mission an essential tool for sustaining peace in Colombia.
The UK said it looks forward to presenting a draft resolution to the Council which would renew the mandate of the Mission.
