Six hill forts make up Rajasthan's World Heritage serial site
Background
The Hill Forts of Rajasthan were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013 under criteria (ii) and (iii). The serial site has six forts: Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh, Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore), Jhalawar (Gagron), Jaipur (Amber) and Jaisalmer. The property covers 736 hectares with a buffer zone of 3,460 hectares. UNESCO says the forts bear testimony to the power of the Rajput princely states that flourished from the 8th to the 18th centuries.
