The commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh takes its name from a temple where two rivulets meet
Background
Indore district sits on the Malwa plateau at an altitude of 553 m. Two small rivulets, the Saraswati and the Khan, meet at the centre of the city, and an eighteenth century temple called Sangamnath or Indreshwar stands at the meeting point. The name Indore is due to this deity. With a population of 32,76,697 at the 2011 census, it is one of India's million-plus cities, the largest city in Madhya Pradesh and the commercial capital of the State.
