The Knesset is a single chamber of 120 members elected from one nationwide constituency

Israel goes to the polls on 27 October 2026, which makes the shape of its parliament worth fixing.
The Knesset is Israel's parliament and has 120 members.
It is elected by nationwide proportional representation, with the whole country forming a single electoral district.
Voters cast their ballot for a party list and not for an individual candidate, so seats are shared out among lists in proportion to their votes.
The electoral threshold is 3.25 per cent of the national vote.
No party has ever won an outright majority of the 120 seats, so every Israeli government has been a coalition.

Why it matters for exams: The name, size, threshold and voting system of a foreign legislature are classic one-mark polity questions.
