United States President Donald Trump called stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons one of the major achievements of his administration.
He told reporters that Tehran would already have used such weapons if Washington had not stepped in.
He said the decision took courage and that no earlier United States president had been willing to take comparable action.
His remarks came a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington was using Iran's nuclear programme as a cover for opposing Tehran's regional policies.
The statement was reported on 22 October 2026.
