Weather agency and ski federation publish a joint report on climate services for ski resorts
3 November 2026
The World Meteorological Organization and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation have brought out a joint report called Weather and Climate Services for Ski Resorts.
It is meant for the winter sports and tourism business, which is finding snow less reliable as temperatures rise.
The report sets out observed and expected changes in weather, climate, snow and ice, the services that exist to help decisions, and how that information can be used in day-to-day running, seasonal planning and long-term investment.
A shorter practical guide tells resort managers which kind of information is useful and where to get it.
An internal calculation by the federation shows that weather forced the cancellation of 25 Alpine Ski World Cup races in the 2025-26 season.
WMO experts presented the report together with seasonal predictions for the coming winter at a federation webinar, as the 2026-27 World Cup season opened at Solden in Austria.
