Jharkhand sets an excise revenue target of Rs 4,500 crore after collections crossed the previous year's target

Chief Minister Hemant Soren reviewed the work of the Excise and Prohibition Department at the Jharkhand Mantralaya, with Excise and Prohibition Minister Yogendra Prasad present.
In the 2025-26 financial year the department had a target of Rs 3,885.11 crore and earned revenue of Rs 4,013.53 crore, exceeding the target.
For 2026-27 the revenue target has been set at Rs 4,500 crore.
By mid-July 2026, Rs 1,376 crore had been collected, which the government puts at 30.57 per cent of the annual target.
The Chief Minister directed that illegal liquor manufacture, transport, sale and smuggling be curbed statewide with full strictness, and that action against those involved be swift and effective.
He said illegal liquor production reduces government revenue and is also a serious health risk to those who consume it.

Target 2025-26: Rs 3,885.11 crore Revenue earned 2025-26: Rs 4,013.53 crore Target 2026-27: Rs 4,500 crore Collected by mid-July 2026: Rs 1,376 crore, 30.57 per cent of the target
Why it matters for exams: State excise revenue is one of a state's largest own tax sources, and the target against actual collection is a usable figure in state finance questions.
