Austria's fossil CO2 emissions fell 4.3% in the latest air emissions accounts

Statistics Austria published its air emissions accounts for 2024 on 16 October 2026, reporting that fossil carbon dioxide emissions decreased by 4.3% in 2024. Carbon dioxide from fossil fuels came to 40,973,600 tonnes, total methane to 245,970 tonnes and particulate matter PM10 to 28,769 tonnes. All three were lower than in 2008. The air emissions accounts form part of Austria's environmental accounts, which record emissions by the economic activity that causes them rather than by where they occur.

Fall in fossil CO2, 2024: 4.3% CO2 from fossil fuels, 2024: 40,973,600 t Methane, 2024: 245,970 t PM10, 2024: 28,769 t
Why it matters for exams: PM10 and the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide and methane, and the office that publishes a country's emissions accounts, are standard Environment questions.
