Bangladesh's exit from the least developed country list is put off to November 2029

The United Nations General Assembly approved three more years for Bangladesh before it leaves the least developed country (LDC) category. Bangladesh will now graduate on 24 November 2029 instead of 24 November 2026. Uruguay tabled the draft on behalf of the G-77 and no country opposed it. General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman chaired the plenary meeting. The Committee for Development Policy (CDP) had recommended the deferral and the Economic and Social Council referred the matter to the Assembly on 21 July. Bangladesh was placed on the LDC list in 1975. The Assembly asked Bangladesh to carry on with reforms and report progress to the CDP every year.

New graduation date: 24 November 2029 Earlier graduation date: 24 November 2026 Extension granted: Three years Year added to LDC list: 1975
Why it matters for exams: The LDC category, the Committee for Development Policy and the G-77 are frequent International Organisations questions.
