This explains the court that has just reconstituted its Division and Single Benches with effect from 1 November 2026. The High Court of Manipur came into existence on 23 March 2013. It was created under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganization) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Act, 2012, which came into force on that date. Its Principal Seat is at Imphal. Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre took the oath of office as its first Chief Justice on 23 March 2013. Before this the State came under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court, and the same amendment Act gave separate High Courts to the north eastern States that were carved out of that jurisdiction. For an aspirant the three facts are the date, the Act and the first Chief Justice.
