Finland took the euro at its launch and sends fifteen members to the European Parliament

Background

The European Union's own country page records that Finland has been a member state since 1 January 1995. It has been in the euro area since 1 January 1999, the date the single currency was launched, and in the Schengen area since 25 March 2001. Finland is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The country sends 15 representatives to the European Parliament. Its geographical size is given as 338 363 square kilometres and its population as 5 635 971. Finland is the only Nordic country that uses the euro.
