General Education Department withdraws the circular that would have removed aided-school teachers without K-TET

Kerala's General Education Department has withdrawn a circular on the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) a day after issuing it.
The circular told aided schools to end the service of teachers appointed without K-TET on or after 1 September 2025.
Teachers promoted without the qualification were to be sent back to their parent posts.
It also barred fresh appointment approvals and promotions for teachers who lack K-TET.
The government said the order had been issued to comply with court directions.
It had cited a Supreme Court ruling that serving teachers too must clear the eligibility test, and teachers' organisations protested against it.
The department has said a fresh decision will be announced soon.

Cut-off date in the circular: 1 September 2025
Why it matters for exams: K-TET is Kerala's eligibility test for school teachers, required under the Right to Education framework in which the NCTE sets minimum teacher qualifications.
