Ghana in the Commonwealth: Kofi Annan's Commonwealth Lecture and four Writers' Prize winners
Background
The Commonwealth Secretariat's country page for Ghana records the country's place in the association. The Ghanaian Kofi Annan, a former Secretary-General of the United Nations, delivered the 3rd Annual Commonwealth Lecture, on the theme that Africa wants to trade its way out of poverty. Four Ghanaians have been regional winners of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize, among them Ama Ata Aidoo. The Secretariat has worked with the Ghanaian National Peace Council on skills for violence-free elections. It has also supported Ghana in publicising bids and contracts in public procurement. Ghana is a member of the Commonwealth Clean Ocean Alliance and the Marine Protected Areas Action Group.
