IIT Bhilai sets its sixth convocation for 313 graduates, with degrees handed out in pen drives

The Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai announced on 22 October 2026 that its sixth convocation would be held two days later, on 24 October, at Nalanda Hall on its permanent campus.
Degrees were to go to 313 students of the 2026 batch - 19 PhD, 37 MSc, 79 MTech, 8 BTech (Honours) and 170 BTech graduates.
Vijay Kumar Saraswat, former member of NITI Aayog, former Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and former Director General of the DRDO, was named chief guest, with Prof Virendra Kumar Vijay, Chairman of the Board of Governors, presiding.
The institute said it would issue digitally signed degree certificates in pen drives, in line with the Digital India programme, calling it a pioneering step among Indian academic institutions.
An Institute Gold Medal goes to the BTech student with the highest CGPA, Director's Gold Medals to outstanding BTech and MTech students including one for the outstanding woman student, and Senate Awards to branch toppers.
IIT Bhilai was established on 7 August 2016; its foundation stone was laid on 14 June 2018 and the permanent campus was dedicated to the nation on 20 February 2024.
Its IT Park, built with the Chhattisgarh government and Nagar Nigam Durg, was inaugurated on 31 May 2026.
