INCOIS warns of a swell surge on the Thiruvananthapuram coast as low-pressure areas form over both seas

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) issued a swell surge warning, known locally as Kallakkadal, for the Thiruvananthapuram coast from Kappil to Pozhiyoor.
Waves of 0.8 to 1.2 metres were expected there until 11.30 p.m. on 25 October.
For the Kanyakumari coast the warning put waves at 1.0 to 1.2 metres.
A low-pressure area lay over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjoining Lakshadweep area, with a trough reaching northern Tamil Nadu.
A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal was expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department warned of thunderstorms and winds of 30 to 40 km an hour at isolated places.
Fishermen and coastal residents were advised to exercise caution.

Wave height, Thiruvananthapuram coast: 0.8 to 1.2 metres Stretch warned: Kappil to Pozhiyoor Wind speed warned: 30 to 40 km an hour
Why it matters for exams: Kallakkadal and the agency that forecasts it are standard questions on India's ocean services.
