Italy's economy stood still in the third quarter, Istat estimates

Istat released its preliminary estimate of Italian gross domestic product on 30 October. It found that output in the third quarter of 2026 was unchanged from the previous quarter. Measured against the same quarter a year earlier, GDP was 0.8 per cent higher. The figures are seasonally and calendar adjusted and expressed in chained volumes. Istat said the carry-over growth for 2026, adjusted for calendar effects, is 0.8 per cent. The third quarter had four more working days than the second quarter and one more than the third quarter of 2025, and the whole of 2026 has three more working days than 2025.

Quarter-on-quarter change: Unchanged Year-on-year change: +0.8% Carry-over growth for 2026: 0.8%
Why it matters for exams: Istat is the named publisher of Italy's GDP estimates, and the 0.8 per cent annual growth figure is the quotable number.
