Istat puts Italy's consumer price inflation at 5.4 per cent for October
30 October 2026
Istat, the body that produces Italy's official statistics, released a preliminary estimate on 30 October. It said the Italian consumer price index for the whole nation, called the NIC, was 5.4 per cent higher in October 2026 than a year earlier, up from 4.2 per cent the month before. Compared with September the index rose 0.9 per cent. Istat traced the acceleration mainly to energy: regulated energy products were 59.5 per cent dearer over the year and non-regulated energy products 29.4 per cent dearer. Unprocessed food prices rose 7.5 per cent. The harmonised index of consumer prices, the HICP used for comparisons across Europe, was 5.6 per cent higher over the year.
