Kerala decentralises flood relief payments to taluks, with tahsildars crediting aid by DBT

The Kerala government issued an order decentralising the full responsibility for distributing flood relief to the taluk level. Until now the distribution was centred on the district collectorates. A large number of applications had delayed scrutiny and sanction. Under the new system, government funds will be transferred directly to District Collectors. Taluk tahsildars will then credit the amount to beneficiaries' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). C-DIT has been directed to change the software to suit the new method.

Disbursing level: Taluk (tahsildars) Mode of payment: DBT Software change assigned to: C-DIT Release number: PNX 3980/2026
Why it matters for exams: Disaster relief administration and the use of DBT in welfare delivery are standard governance topics.
