Kerala forms a committee with seven trade union representatives to advise on State rules under the Labour Codes

The Kerala government decided on 22 October 2026 to form a special committee, including trade union representatives, to examine the implementation of the Labour Codes. The decision came at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister V D Satheesan at the Secretariat, attended by Labour Minister Bindu Krishna and office-bearers of 22 trade unions. The Labour Department Secretary will be convenor and the Law Department Additional Secretary a member, with seven trade union representatives and Labour Department officials. The committee must report within 10 days of its formation. Unions may propose amendments to the draft prepared in 2021, and the State will ask the Centre to lower the worker threshold in the Codes.
