Keralam Police replace the station PRO system with Citizen Help Desks at every police station
30 October 2026
Keralam Police have done away with the Public Relations Officer (PRO) system in police stations and set up Citizen Help Desks at all stations instead.
Each desk is meant to be a single point of contact for anyone who walks in.
It will take complaints and issue acknowledgements, and handle online fraud, cybercrime and social media complaints, including through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and the 1930 helpline.
People can also apply there for Right to Information (RTI) replies, copies of First Information Reports (FIRs), accident General Diary entries and No Objection Certificates.
The desks will give basic legal guidance and refer people to legal aid centres where needed.
Women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons and persons with disabilities are to get dedicated help.
Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the government to reconsider the change, saying ordinary people may find it harder to approach the police.
