Ladakh Pashmina Conclave brings an MoU with the Ministry of Textiles and a postal stamp on GI-tagged Ladakh Pashmina
27 October 2026
The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh inaugurated a two-day Ladakh Pashmina Conclave with a Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet at Leh. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Department of Industries and Commerce, UT Ladakh, to develop the Pashmina sector. A postal stamp on GI-tagged Ladakh Pashmina was released at the event. Nomadic Pashmina herders, artisans, entrepreneurs, designers and buyers took part, along with delegates from Mongolia, Japan and Thailand. The administration has set a target of raising the Pashmina goat population from about 2 lakh to 4 lakh within three years. The Lieutenant Governor said Pashmina must be produced in Ladakh, processed in Ladakh and branded as Ladakh Pashmina, and that Changpa herders, artisans, women-led self-help groups and young entrepreneurs should gain from it.
