Officials said on Monday that rehabilitation and social services in Marawi, Lanao del Sur, remain on track nine years after the city's liberation from a siege by armed militants. The Marawi Compensation Board continues on-site inspections and assessments of claimants whose properties were destroyed, and some were compensated earlier this year. The five-month siege staged by Islamic State-affiliated militants, including the Maute group and Abu Sayyaf, was officially declared over on Oct. 23, 2017. The Marawi City General Hospital in Barangay Tolali is nearing completion and the local government is ready to take over the facility; Vice Mayor Majul Gandamra said PHP200 million has been allocated for the hospital's operations in 2027 and the hospital is designed to accommodate up to 100 beds. Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Antonio Nafarrete unveiled the Marawi Operations Map during its ceremonial handover to the AFP Museum at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
