Puducherry Police sign an agreement with the police research bureau to rebuild beat level policing

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Puducherry Police and the Bureau of Police Research & Development, covering grassroots policing, modern law enforcement structures and community engagement in the Union Territory. A release by Senior Superintendent of Police, Law and Order, R. Kalaivanan said the partnership follows the recommendations of the DGP and IGP level conference held by the Central government last year, which called for a focused one year programme to strengthen beat level policing. On that basis the Bureau has drawn up a one year action plan for the effective use of beat level policing in the country. The cooperation gives a framework for rationalising beat structures, active community engagement, the generation and use of local information, modern technology, monitoring systems and wide capacity building. The Bureau will give the Puducherry Police technical support to put the action plan in place. The release said the aim is to make policing service oriented, responsive and efficient, and to build trust between neighbourhoods and the force.

Instrument signed: Memorandum of Understanding Central partner: Bureau of Police Research Plan period: one-year action plan
Why it matters for exams: The durable fact is that BPR&D stands for the Bureau of Police Research & Development, the central body that has drawn up the one year beat policing action plan.
