Security camps in Bastar are being turned into Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Deras to carry schemes to remote villages
27 October 2026
Chhattisgarh's Directorate of Public Relations has set out how security camps in the Bastar division are being developed into Seva Deras so that government schemes reach villages in the interior. The camps were set up during years of left wing extremism, and the plan now is to use the same posts as service centres for ration cards, Aadhaar, housing, health care and skill training. More than 500 security camps were set up in the region and over 200 of them are to become Shaheed Veer Gundadhur Seva Deras, named after the Bastar tribal leader who led the Bhumkal rebellion. Figures given by the Union Home Minister for the rehabilitation drive show about 8,526 Naxalites having surrendered, bank accounts opened for 7328 of them, 455 given jobs, 129 allotted land and 4014 given houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Work has begun on 372 road projects and 670 small bridges, 6763 new ration cards and 48,526 Aadhaar cards were issued, and 44 gram panchayats received Ilwad Panchayat Awards. The State's Bastar programmes include Bastar Olympics, Bastar Pandum and Niyad Nellanar.
